If you or someone who lives with you, needs a room or an extra bathroom or kitchen, or extra space in your property because of a disability, you may be entitled to a reduced Council Tax bill. The bill may be reduced to that of a property in the band immediately below the band shown on the valuation list.
These reductions ensure that disabled people do not have to pay more Council Tax on account of the space they need because of their disability.
Please note that all Council Tax payers, including those in Band A properties, can apply for this reduction. From 1 April 2000, if the banding is 'A', a reduction of 1/9th of Band 'D' will apply to qualifying accounts.
For more information contact Carlisle City Council on 01228 817200, e-mail customerservices@carlisle.gov.uk or complete the form (PDF) and send it to us. We will arrange a visit to see if you qualify.
