Sudden death investigations
Coroners are officers appointed by the Council
to investigate any sudden or unexplained death. They are
independent of both Local and Central Government and are required
to act in accordance with legislation.
The three coroners in Cumbria are all
solicitors. They have a small support staff and investigations are
carried out on their behalf by the police.
