Gambling Act 2005
The new Act replaces the following Acts:
- Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963
- Gaming Act 1968
- Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976
The Act provides for three categories of licence:
Operating and personal licenses are issued by the Gambling Commission
(external link).
The new Premises licence applies to:
- Bingo Halls
- Casinos
- Betting premises, including tracks
- Adult Gaming Centres
- Family Entertainment Centres
- Vessels
In addition to licences, there are forms of authorisation we may
grant, for example, authorisation for the temporary use of premises
and occasional use notices
We also issue permits for:
- Unlicensed family entertainment centres
- Prize gaming
- Gaming machines on alcohol-licensed premises
- Club gaming
- Club gaming machines
Licensees, the council and other agencies must all work to
promote the licensing objectives which are:
- Prevention of of crime or disorder
- Ensuring fair and open conduct
- Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from
harm.
