Licence - riding establishment

A licence is required to keep a riding establishment.

Any person keeping a Riding Establishment must be licenses with the local authority.

This means that every person who keeps horses and hires them for riding, or who provides, in return for payment, instruction in riding is required to be licensed. 

This covers:

Traditional riding lessons

Hacking (the hiring of horses for leisurely riding off      the premises)

Any trekking

Donkey rides (but excludes livery)

 

To get a licence the applicant needs:

Inspection and approval of stables and tack by environmental health.

Inspection and approval of horses and facilities by a vet.

Public liability insurance.
