Brian Scowcroft

Brian ScowcroftPosition: Chairman of Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd.

Current Role:

For the last twenty years I have been involved in town centre development schemes of an office and retail nature and in particular have developed new town centre retail schemes in Leigh, Lancashire and more recently Bishop Stortford in Hertfordshire. For the last eight years, as Chairman and owner of Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd, I have been responsible for the successful implementation and delivery of a JVC development brief for Kingmoor Park in Carlisle initially in conjunction with Cumbria County Council and English Partnerships and more latterly as a purely private sector enterprise following a buy out of the public sector. Kingmoor Park is a flagship development and a key strategic employment site in Cumbria currently employing some 1700 people with the potential to increase employee numbers to 5000 following delivery of current development proposals including the Carlisle Northern Development Route and the associated "Hub" development.

Career Highlights:

As a resident of Cumbria and a key player in the development of the county, I am keen to build on the success of Kingmoor Park to incorporate the wider Carlisle area. I believe I have the necessary experience, foresight and partnerships with other key business players to make this happen. I am also interested in ensuring that the social fabric of the area is also enhanced and have been responsible for donating over £2m to local causes principally to alleviate social exclusion through illness, disability, deprivation and enhancing access to education. More recently I have been actively involved in the Academy programme within Carlisle and have pledged, together with Andrew Tinkler of WA Developments Ltd, £2m to ensure the transformation of both St Aidan’s High School and Morton School into top class Academies.

I am in the process of becoming a member of the Cumbria Vision Board; I am involved in the Cumbria Children’s Joint Performance Improvement Board and a prospective Governor of both the Richard Rose Academy and the Richard Rose Morton Academy. I am keen to make a difference to Carlisle and would like to work with other like minded individuals and organisations to ensure that this happens. The Carlisle Renaissance Board to my mind is the perfect vehicle for delivering this major project for Carlisle and I believe I have the necessary experience to play a part.
