How will the law be enforced?
Authorised officers of the local authority will be able to enter
premises affected by this legislation in order to check that the
law is being obeyed. Where there is persistent and blatant
disregard for the law -they will be able to give out fixed penalty
notices to people they believe are committing, or have committed,
an offence under the legislation. City Council Education and
Enforcement Officers will be visiting pubs and workplaces once the
new laws come into force, offering support and advice and carrying
out enforcement activities where necessary.
