Child protection
The Local Safeguarding Children Board agrees how relevant
organisations in each area should work together to keep
children safe.
Cumbria Local Safeguarding Children Board is producing new
multi-agency Safeguarding Procedures in accordance with government
guidance in ‘What to do if you are worried a child is being abused’
and the new edition of ‘Working Together
to Safeguard Children’ (external link) which was
published in April 2006. The Board represents and coordinates
the work of statutory sector agencies and partners in the voluntary
sector to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in
Cumbria.
The board has three main purposes:
- They make sure that member organisations engage in activities
that safeguard all children, identify and prevent maltreatment, and
ensure that children are growing up in safe surroundings;
- they organise proactive work targeting specific "at
risk" groups; and
- they organise protection for children who are suffering,
or likely to suffer, significant harm.
