Death - repatriation of bodies - abroad

Death abroad

All deaths must be registered in the country where the death occurs - a foreign (local) death certificate will then be issued. Your tour guide, the local police or the British Consul can advise you on how to do this.

You can also often register the death at the British Consulate as well. You don't have to do this, but if you do you'll be given a UK death certificate and a record will be kept at the General Registry Office's Overseas Registration section in the UK.
