Property Ownership Records
Property Services is responsible for maintaining the Council's
land and property ownership records, known as the property Terrier.
The Terrier is a collection of maps and legal records for all the
properties that the Council has an interest in.
If you wish to enquire if a piece of land or a building is owned
by the City Council, please contact Property Services or submit a
Land Ownership Enquiry Form to Property
Services.
Unfortunately the City Council does not hold private ownership
records, and therefore for land which is not in the ownership of
the City Council we will be unable to provide ownership details.
However, you could try contacting one of the following for further
information: -
Contact the Land Registry to enquire whether land or property
has been registered with them. Visit the Land Registry website or
write to them at: Land Registry Durham Office, Southfield House,
Southfield Way, Durham, DH1 5TR.
To enquire whether an area of land or a road forms part of an
adopted footpath or highway, please contact the relevant department
at Cumbria County Council. Visit Cumbria County Council's website
for further details.
Local Parish Council's can own areas of land within their
District. For more information, please contact the Parish clerk.
You could also try enquiring with any adjoining or local
landowners of the land or property in question who may be able to
provide further information.
