City centre event celebrates national campaign

Carlisle City Council will be offering up advice and information about Real Nappies on Friday, 25 April at Carlisle Library, between 11am and 1pm.

As part of the 12th anniversary of Real Nappy Week (21 - 27 April 2008) Carlisle City Council staff will be providing information about a new money off voucher scheme.

The Real Nappy event forms part of Carlisle City Council’s campaign to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

The national week is co-ordinated by the National Real Nappy Campaign and this year, will be concentrating on how parents can help to combat climate change by using Real Nappies.

The message is clear, providing parents follow simple guidelines when using real nappies, there can be significant gains for the environment both in reduced greenhouse gases and household waste sent to landfill or incineration.

The UK currently throws away around three billion disposable nappies every year. They are estimated to weigh 690,000 tonnes most of which are landfilled where they generate methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
