City Centre to host weekend event
Carlisle is set for a boost to the local economy between
Friday, 18 April and Saturday, 19 April, when it welcomes back
the Pirelli International Rally.
As part of the prestigious Pirelli event, International and
National crews will begin leaving a ramp outside the Old Town on
Friday (18 April) evening from a specially constructed start in the
city centre pedestrianised area. Spectators will be able to witness
first hand the cars as they travel around the city centre
streets.
The Pirelli Historic Rally will kick off the action at 6pm and
will be followed by the start of the Pirelli International Rally at
around 7.30pm and then followed by the Land Rover Rally soon
after.
The Pirelli Historic Rally will return on Saturday afternoon
(12pm approx). The Saturday leg of the Pirelli National Rally
finishes in the city centre at approximately 5pm, followed soon
after by the Pirelli International Rally at approximately 6pm and
the Land Rover finish soon after. Spectators are also welcome to
visit the Service Area at Carlisle Airport.

prestigious sporting occasions, an internationally renowned event,
which brings world wide publicity to the City. This sporting
spectacular is great news for the local economy and tourism and we
hope that spectators come out in force, enjoy themselves and
support the event."
Carlisle City Council and Invest In Cumbria have sponsored the
Carlisle stage of the event. More information about the Pirelli

There will be no vehicular access to Scotch Street on Friday, 18
April between 5pm to 9pm. There will also be no vehicular access to
Scotch Street from 11am to 2.30pm and 5pm to 9pm on Saturday, 19
April. The Civic Centre car park will be used on Friday 18 April
and Saturday, 19 April as a staging point for the rally and will be
closed for public parking after 3pm on the Friday and all day on
the Saturday.
