As part of Adult Learners’ Week (9 - 15 May), Carlisle City Council is inviting local residents along to a city centre celebration of learning event on Tuesday, 12 May.

Visitors to the event in the city centre’s pedestrianised area, in front of the Old Town Hall, will be able to meet experts from more than 20 organisations, between 10am and 3pm.

In addition to formal learning, informal learning, including volunteering and community involvement will all be celebrated. Organisations confirmed as attending include the University of Cumbria, Carlisle College, Adult Education Carlisle, the Return to Work project, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and range of local training providers.

The stalls will include information promoting courses, activities, skills and helping local communities. The Royal Navy will have a display vehicle and System Group will have a mobile classroom. Students from Carlisle College will be providing mini manicures.

Cllr Barry Earp, Portfolio holder for Learning and Development, said:

“The aim of the event is to promote learning for all in Carlisle and help local residents to find out about the wide range of opportunities across the district. There are lots of ways for people to build on their skills or to give their time for others. Come along and celebrate learning for life.”
