Globe Tavern, Longtown
City Council revoke licence
The licence for the Globe Tavern in Longtown was revoked by a
Carlisle City Council Licensing Sub-Committee today (Monday, 20
August). The decision was taken following concerns from Cumbria
Constabulary and also the City Council's Environmental Health.
Premise Licence holder Drew Brown, from Orton Road, Carlisle
also had his licence revoked after serious concerns were raised
about the running of the public house.
Carlisle City Council's Environmental Health section requested a
review of the licence after the type and volume of music at the
premises appeared to be 'inappropriate for the locality'. This was
proving to be causing disturbance to a number of residents living
in the close vicinity to the premises.
Members of the committee were told that despite advice verbal
and written warnings from the Environmental Health Officers and the
serving on an Abatement Notice, noise from music and customers
using the pub's garden continues to disturb local householders.
At a hearing, held at the Civic Centre this afternoon, members
of the committee were also told that, over a three month period,
the Police had received reports of assault, criminal damage, the
sale of drugs, underage drinking and excessive music levels.
Mr Brown and Pubfolio Limited, the freehold owner of the Globe
Tavern are now able to appeal the decision, if they wish, to the
Magistrates' Courts.
