Mayor hosts event for national award winners
Energy efficiency work recognised
An award winning team that has helped thousands of households in
Cumbria save more than £1.6million a year in energy bills, has had
their hard work recognised by the Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Elizabeth
Mallinson today (Tuesday, 14 August).
A Civic reception was held for the Cumbria Energy Efficiency
Advice Centre (EEAC) this afternoon at the Civic Centre.
An integrated and highly professional service, EEAC offers
advice, funding and insulation. In just two years it has insulated
the cavity walls of more than 9,000 homes and provided loft
insulation for more than 5,000 homes, saving 12,500 tonnes of CO2 a
year and reducing fuel bills by more than £1.6 million a year.
Their hard work was recently recognised nationally when they won
the Ashden Award for Energy Innovation and attended a presentation
with US green-campaigner Al Gore and HRH Prince Charles, Prince of
Wales.
Staff from EEAC, part of Carlisle City Council's Development
Services, provides free, impartial energy efficiency to more than
15,000 Cumbrian householders.
They help local people who are faced with a bewildering array of
grants to make sense of the options and access the right funds for
them. One of EEAC's greatest strengths is the stringent management
controls it has developed which ensure that contractors carry out
work to consistently high standards.
