Carlisle Cricket Club:
6-A-Side Cricket Tournament
(Date of issue: Thursday, 27 August 2009)
English cricket legend, Graham Gooch and the Mayor of Carlisle,
Cllr William Graham, will be guests of honour at a local charity
event on Sunday, 6 September.
A 6-A-Side cricket tournament and family fun day has been
organised by Carlisle Cricket Club at their Edenside grounds
between 11am and 9pm. Following the recent Ashes success, local
cricket fans will be able to meet Graham Gooch, England’s greatest
ever test run scorer, between 2.30pm and 5pm. A charity auction
will also be held at 7pm and will include the chance to bid for
cricket memorabilia and two tickets for the sell-out England v
Australia one day international at Durham Cricket Club.
Teams from Carlisle, Penrith and Wigton will be competing in the
tournament throughout the day. There will also be a barbecue, car
boot sale and lots of family games and activities, including a
bouncy castle and target golf. Dick Scott, Carlisle Cricket Club’s
Secretary, said:
“The emphasis of the event is about family fun,
to raise the profile of the club and most importantly funding for
the Mayor’s Charity Fund. We’d welcome local families to make a
visit and enjoy a day, packed with lots of activities. We’re
delighted that Graham Gooch has kindly agreed to attend and I’m
sure he’ll be fielding lots of questions about the recent Ashes win
at The Oval.”
Fundraising for the Mayor’s Charity Fund – the main beneficiary
of which is the Eden House Children’s Hospice, Carlisle, will also
be held throughout the event. Tickets include refreshments and cost
£5 per person or £12 for a family ticket (two adults and two
children). They can be bought before the event or on the day.
Former England Captain, Graham Gooch, said:
“I am delighted to support such a noble cause.
I've holidayed in Cumbria several times and have always been made
to feel very welcome. It will be a pleasure to visit once
again.”
