Voluntary redundancies confirmed
Date of issue: Thursday 27 August 2009
Six of Carlisle City Council’s senior managers will be taking
voluntary redundancy as part of the Council’s transformation
programme.
In July, City Councillors approved a new Senior Management
Structure, reducing the number of senior management posts from 19
to nine.
This new structure is designed to not only help to provide some
of the savings needed for the City Council, but will also to enable
the Council to face the future and be flexible to meet the
challenges of the economic recession and the likely reduction in
income, including Government funding over the coming years.
The new management structure will provide an annual saving of
around £630,000 and additional savings will be needed to achieve
the planned £1million revenue savings by 2010/2011.
Senior managers were invited to apply for voluntary redundancy
by the City Council’s Town Clerk and Chief Executive and each
applicant was considered and then recommended to the Employment
Panel, who met on Tuesday 25 August 2009, to consider the
individual financial settlements of each case.
The remaining members of the senior management and heads of
service teams will have an opportunity to apply for posts within
the new structure and the recruitment and selection process is
scheduled for the end of September. As part of the same process,
these members of staff will be issued with redundancy notices on
the 16 September 2009.
