£150 fine for Carlisle resident
A Carlisle resident who was caught fly tipping at a local
community centre has been fined £150 by Carlisle Magistrates’ Court
today (Monday, 17 December).
Natalie Brown, 25 years old, Harraby Carlisle was prosecuted by
Carlisle City Council for fly tipping five bags of waste at Harraby
Community Centre in April; this year.
Legal action was taken by the Environmental Quality Section of
the City Council after CCTV cameras at the Community Centre caught
Ms Brown dumping the waste, thought to contain material from a
bathroom refurbishment.
Carlisle Magistrates’ fined Ms Brown £150, plus £75 costs and a
£15 surcharge, at a Court hearing this today (Monday, 17
December).
Councillor Ray Bloxham, portfolio holder for Environment and
Infrastructure said:
"Every effort is being made to ensure that
Carlisle remains cleaner, greener and safer. We want to encourage
the public to take pride in their communities. We have to be robust
and make a difference. Hopefully this fine will emphasise the
message that we are taking this issue seriously."
The Notice was served using the Environmental Protection Act
1990.
