Christmas gifts
Donations sought for hostel residents
(Date of issue: Monday, 13 December 2010)
Local residents are being asked to make donations to Carlisle
hostels and their residents this Christmas.
Practical items such as tins of food, soap, tooth paste, tooth
brushes, towels and bedding would all be appreciated and will be
handed out to hostels users.
Unwanted Christmas gifts would also be appreciated, so instead
selling it online, why not consider giving to the hostels
instead.
Carlisle City Council runs two hostels providing temporary
accommodation – John Street hostel for men (currently being
renovated) and London Road hostel for families and women.
There are also 11 move-on properties linked to both hostels
which also provide accommodation for single residents and
families.
Residents are supported by key workers during their stay in
hostel accommodation. This support can continue for up to eight
weeks once appropriate settled accommodation is identified. As part
of the hostel re settlement programme, support from outside
agencies can also be arranged if required.
Donations can be dropped off at the Civic Centre, Carlisle
between normal office hours (Monday- Thursday, 9am – 5pm and
Fridays, 9am – 4pm). However, the Civic Centre will be closed on
Monday 27 December, Tuesday 28 December and Monday 3 January. The
Customer Contact Centre will close at 3pm on both Friday 24
December and Friday 31 December.
