Free outdoor activities for local youngsters

The chance to take part in some free outdoor half-term fun was available for local youngsters.

Carlisle City Council had organised a series of ‘Play in the Park’ events and is providing a variety activities for children and young people aged between 5 and 11 years old to enjoy.

The first event was held in Hammond’s Pond and was a resounding success. Two further events were planned on Wednesday (13 February) in St James’ Park, Denton Holme and Thursday, 14 February in Melbourne Park, Botcherby.

Local families were told that there was no need to book, just turn up and play between 1pm and 3pm each day.

Cllr Ray Knapton, Portfolio holder for Community Engagement said:

"Our Play in the Parks schemes are free of charge and provide opportunities for local youngsters to enjoy a range of creative, active and challenging play and sports activities. We hope that local families join in with the fun."

The Play in the Park events will include the opportunity to take part in sports such as football, cricket, tennis and basketball, alongside fun craft and play activities. Cumbria Fire Service will also be attending and will be providing fire safety advice.

The schemes are open access, drop-in sessions.

Children do not have to join in any of the organised activities and Carlisle City Council staff are not responsible for making sure that children stay in the park until collected by a parent/carer.
