Local people asked to give their support

The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Mrs Elizabeth Mallinson, is asking local residents to give their support to volunteers taking part in her Civic Centre charity abseil later this month (Monday, 18 February).

Fifteen volunteers have signed up and will be abseiling down the ten - floor skyscraper. The Mayor is unable to take part in the event for medical reasons but a friend, Syd Bowman, has stepped in as her substitute.

Sergeant-Major Everton Williams, together with 13 other Volunteers, including Councillor Kimberley Hunter, Rotary Members, and Members of the Stagedright Youth Theatre, will also be taking part.

The Army Recruiting Team will be on hand to ensure that the abseil down the 135-foot high (41-metre) building, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2004, goes safely.

All sponsorship monies will be donated to the Mayor’s Charity Fund, whose main beneficiaries are the Eden Valley Hospice, Hospice at Home (Carlisle & North Lakeland), The Royal British Legion (Carlisle & Stanwix Branch) and the Sunbeams Music Trust.

Sponsorship Forms are available at the main Reception on the Ground Floor of the Civic Centre, if residents wish to sponsor anyone taking part in the event.
