Full Council sets 2010/2011 spending
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 3 February 2010)
Carlisle City Council set its budget for 2010/2011 last night
(Tuesday, 2 February 2010) at a Special Full Council meeting.
As part of the City Council budget there is ongoing investment
in housing schemes, recycling, environmental enhancements, disabled
facilities grants, recreation and play areas, CCTV and street
cleaning.
The budget also includes major projects, such as the
refurbishment of the Old Town Hall and the development of Tullie
House as part of the Roman Gateway scheme.
A 2% increase in the City Council’s portion of Council tax was
agreed. This equates to only an additional £130,000 to the City
Council’s overall income.
For a band A property this means an increase of £2.53 for the
year, equivalent to around 5p per week; for a band B property this
means an increase of £2.96 for the year, equivalent to 5.5p per
week and for a band D property this means an increase of £3.80 for
the year, equivalent to 7p per week.
The final accumulative tax figure for 2010/2011 (including the
County Council and Cumbria Police Authority) will be announced at
the City Council’s Full Council on Tuesday, 2 March 2010.
