Local children and young people asked to have their say
(Date of issue: Monday, 8 February 2010)
Local families will be able to have a ‘flipping’ great time this
Pancake Day (Tuesday, 16 February).
A Shrove Tuesday event will be held in Carlisle’s city centre
pedestrianised area, outside the Old Town Hall. Planned between
10am and 4pm, it has been organised to coincide with a Carlisle
Play Trail consultation event.
Organised by Carlisle City Council, some children and teenagers
will have the chance to make their own pancakes, cook them, flip
them, and then eat them.
Other hands on activities and interactive displays will also be
used as part of the consultation to help inspire suggestions for
new features to form part of the trail.
Funded by a Big Lottery Fund grant, the play trail is proposed
to run between Carlisle’s city centre and the Devonshire Walk
Skatepark. It will involve creating a series of objects including
sculptures, interactive structures and activity areas.
The idea emerged from the findings of a series of consultations
with children and young people, which highlighted how they felt the
city centre lacked vitality and interest for them.
Cllr Olwyn Luckley, Portfolio holder for Health & Community
Development, said:
“The Play Trail consultation will provide an
opportunity for local children and youngsters to have their say on
how they’d like the scheme to develop. It will be a family-themed
event that will include lots of hands on activities and free
pancakes!
“I hope that local families come out in force to
support the event.”
As part on the event, there will be a pancake making
demonstration on the hour by "Kendal creperie" who will use their
expertise to demonstrate the perfect pancake.
