Carlisle’s Royal Garden Party in the City
Spring event planned for Carlisle
(Date of issue: Friday, 25 February 2010)
Preparations are underway for Carlisle’s very own spring Royal
Garden Party!
In celebration of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate
Middleton, the city centre will host a ‘Royal Garden Party’ on
Friday 29 and Saturday, 30 April, between 10am and 4pm.
Appealing to residents and visitors, it will include street
entertainment, bunting and a live broadcast of the Royal wedding
from Westminster Abbey (Friday, 29 April) on a big Stobart LED
screen.
Exhibitions, demonstrations and talks will take place in two
marquees and the garden party theme will continue with the sale of
plants, shrubs and all things horticultural from specialist
retailers. Cumbrian food products and gifts will also be on sale
from Made in Cumbria.
The Carlisle City Council event is in partnership with The
Cumberland News and will be brought to you by cnevents.
Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr Mike Mitchelson, said:
“Carlisle’s Royal Garden Party will be an event unlike any other
in the city. The theme is very much all that is great about
Britain. As visitors wander around the city centre, they will be
able to browse a host of specialist plant retailers, accessories,
nurseries and garden centres. Made in Cumbria will offer the best
of our county including local food products and quality gifts.
There will be something for everyone.”
Live street entertainment will also follow the British theme.
Beefeaters and traditional characters such as Charlie Chaplin and
the Madhatter will entertain and delight shoppers. On the Saturday,
a fantastic Beatles tribute band will perform live from the
bandstand and take people back to the golden era of British pop.
The group will provide a quality soundtrack to the
celebrations.
David McNeill, CN Group’s Event Manager, said:
“Carlisle’s Royal Garden Party is the perfect way for families
to spend a couple of days over the bank holiday weekend. It will
definitely be the place to watch the Royal wedding. We are very
excited to bring such a unique and special event to the city”.
