Homecoming Parade
Residents and secondary schools invited to support
Regiment
(Date of issue: Monday 28 February 2011)
A Homecoming Parade for the 1st Battalion, The Duke of
Lancaster’s Regiment will be held in Carlisle this Wednesday (2
March).
The Mayor is inviting pupils from the city’s secondary schools
to join residents to support the homecoming parade which will
include more than 100 soldiers.
The Mayor said:
“This parade gives us all an opportunity to celebrate the
immense contribution which our Armed Forces make to the well-being
of our nation. We all know that we live in unpredictable and
dangerous times, where unfortunately our country and its people,
face threats to our well-being and prosperity. It is the job of our
Armed Forces to defend our country and its interests against those
threats. We should be justly proud of the work which they still do,
and have done, and the sacrifices which they, and their families,
have made for us all over the years so that the way life and
freedoms which we enjoy can continue.”
As part of the parade, the Mayor of Carlisle, Councillor Mary
Styth and Brigadier Mike Griffiths CBE, who is The Colonel of The
Regiment, will take the salute.
To mark the end of battalion’s tour of duty in Afghanistan, The
Mayor and her consort, civic representatives, local dignitaries and
