A wide range of community groups and local volunteers have

grounds and have also took part in a poster competition promoting
the Big Tidy Up week

in the Woods!’ litter picking event on Wednesday, 9 March). The
students/residents will also be asked not to park on Tarraby Lane
on Monday, 7 March to allow highways improvements to be made
- Glenmore Trust (Healthland’s Helping Hands) – litter pick
around Eden Bridge gardens and Clarke’s Field on Thursday, 10
March
- Friends of Rickerby Park – litter pick in park on Saturday, 12
March.

and Boys Brigade
- Cricket Club (young cricketers will litter pick the path from
the club gate to Etterby Street on Saturday, 12 March)
- Probation Service
- Stanwix Community Association
- St Augustine’s parish volunteers
- St Michael’s parish volunteers.
Between Monday, 7 March and Saturday, 12 March, Carlisle City
Council and partners, are planning a comprehensive clean-up of the
Stanwix area and are asking the local community to lend a hand.
Volunteers who want to take an active part in making their local
environment cleaner, greener and safer, are being asked to take
part in a community litter-pick. This will be held on Saturday, 12
March, between 10am and 3pm.
Anyone that wants to take part should meet at Stanwix Community
Association Hut, Church Street, Stanwix at 10am.
All equipment will be provided by the City Council. Anyone
interested in taking part, should contact 01228 618556 or 01228
817200 for more information.
Cllr Jacquelyne Geddes, Ward Councillor for Stanwix Urban,
said:
"The week long Big Tidy Up event has already attracted lots of
support and a wide range of groups have pledged to take part. This
is great news for the community and will have a lasting effect on
the local environment.”
In some areas, the City Council will be asking residents to move
their vehicles, at certain times, so allow mechanical sweeping to
be done.
In addition to the litter picking event, Carlisle City Council
will also be doing the following in the Stanwix area during the Big
Tidy Up week: additional road sweeping; litter picking; removing
fly posters; removing graffiti; cleaning gullies; shrub bed
maintenance; removing weeds; minor highway repairs and other
general maintenance work.
