Planning Carlisle’s Future
Residents asked for their say
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 9 February 2011)
Local residents and businesses are being given the opportunity
to have their say on how Carlisle should be developed over the next
20 years.
Carlisle City Council is replacing its Local Plan with a new
style Local Development Framework and is asking Carlisle residents
and businesses to give their views. In addition to a leaflet being
sent to every household, information will also be available at
neighbourhood forums, from the Civic Centre’s Customer Contact
Centre, your local library and Carlisle City Council’s website -
www.carlisle.gov.uk.
The City Council is asking local residents what they think the
key planning issues are for them. They also want to find out what
they like about Carlisle and how it could be improved.
Three headings gather together all the key issues which the City
Council feels are important for the future growth and development
of Carlisle:
- Social – Housing; support services in rural areas; health and
services for older and young people;
- Economic – Creating jobs; education; new technology; leisure;
retail and tourism;
- Environmental – Transport; reducing pollution; green spaces;
conservation and flood risk.
A leaflet will be sent to all householders and local businesses
next week (week commencing Monday, 14 February) seeking local
views. The following questions have been put forward:
- What do you want your area to look like in 20 years times?
- How do you think we can make this happen?
- Has the City Council identified all the important issues that
you think affect Carlisle?
- Are there any issues that you feel will need to be addressed in
the future?
The responses received will help to shape a document called the
Core Strategy. This will be part of the Local Development Framework
for Carlisle which will replace the current Local Plan.
The City Council is inviting comments by Thursday, 31 March
2011.
A more detailed document, the
Key Issues Paper is available to download.
