Greenbag collection time changes
New calendars for all Carlisle households
(Date of issue: Tuesday, 7 February 2012)
Carlisle householders will soon receive their refuse and
recycling calendars for 2012/2013.
Each household will receive their own individual calendar
through the post if they have kerbside recycling or a refuse
wheeled bin. Delivery started today and will carry on throughout
the week.
Alongside their calendars, residents will be told that to make
the best use of resources, there will be some changes to the
collection times of plastics and cardboard (greenbags). These will
come into operation from Thursday, 1 March 2012.
Those who receive a kerbside plastics and cardboard collection,
are being asked to ensure that their greenbags are placed out
before 7am on the scheduled day of collection, as the council is
unable to make any returned visits.
This does not affect any refuse, greenbox or garden waste
collection however all kerbside refuse and recycling containers
should also be placed out by 7am on the date stated on collection
calendars, as it is sometimes necessary to alter the collection
route.
Other advice on how to recycle in Carlisle is also given:
- If you have a greenbox, please stack your clean paper to the
bottom/side of your box or place the heavier items on the paper to
stop it blowing away;
- Buy a cover for your greenbox for only £1. These are available
from Carlisle City Council’s Customer Contact Centre;
- If you have more than one greenbox segregate your
recycling;
- Please ensure you wash and squash your plastic bottles and
rinse your jars and cans;
- Please put clean cardboard and clean plastics in separate
greenbags, as we are unable to recycle mixed materials; and
- Please use a recycling point if you don’t have access to all
the council’s kerbside recycling schemes. The location of these can
be found on www.carlisle.gov.uk
Full details of the refuse and recycling collection arrangements
