Good behaviour rewarded
Carlisle & Eden Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership
have teamed up with Carlisle United to provide 20 young people
between the ages of 8 and 10 from Carlisle with an opportunity to
see behind the scenes at Brunton Park.
This is a pilot project aimed at rewarding young people for
their good behaviour or for having made a positive change. The
young people will be shown round the ground starting at 12 noon on
Saturday 19 January, with a game of 5-a-side football at the Neal
Sports Centre and then on to watch the home game against Crewe
finishing at 5pm.
The idea behind the reward project is to build a bond between
young people and agencies dealing with anti-social behaviour and
demonstrate that good behaviour does get rewarded alongside a
number of measures used by partners including Acceptable Behaviour
Contracts, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, early intervention schemes
and high visibility police patrols in hot spot areas.
Throughout Carlisle Anti-social behaviour incidents have fallen
from 12315 incidents in 2006 / 07 to 9609 incidents during the same
period in 2007 / 08, a drop of 2706 incidents or 22%. Carlisle
& Eden Crime and Reduction Partnership (CDRP) working with
partners including Cumbria Constabulary and Cumbria Fire and Rescue
Service have reason to be pleased as Anti-social behaviour figures
for Carlisle which have tumbled for the period 1 April 2007 to
01January 2008.
Initiatives like this demonstrate that the partnership is
working hard to engage with all types of groups to make a positive
difference to our communities through the Multi Agency Problem
Solving Unit based at the Civic Centre, the Anti-Social Behaviour
Co-ordinator and the Local Policing Team Problem Solvers.
The current CDRP priorities, which include contributing to a
high quality of life for all, and creating an environment where
people can feel secure and live without the threat or fear of crime
are reflected in these significantly reduced Anti-social Behaviour
figures. They are a testament to the hard work and dedication of
all of the partners involved in helping to make Carlisle and Eden
among the safest places to live in the country. The recently
established Multi Agency Problem Solving Unit (Maps) has already
started to pay dividends and will assist in continuing to drive
down the Anti-social Behaviour figures for North Cumbria.
