Air dome back in use
(Date of issue: Thursday, 29 January 2009)
Bitts Park’s tennis air dome is back in operation.
The sports facility was damaged following high winds earlier
this month. Covair, the contractor who supplied the air dome,
visited the site yesterday (Wednesday, 28 January) and has
re-instated it.
The air dome opened for business in November last year but has
been out of operation since Sunday, 11 January.
Carlisle City Council spokesperson said:
"Our contractors, Covair, have re-installed the
air dome and the courts are now up and running again. The high
winds earlier this month resulted in it being out of use for a few
weeks and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have
caused."
The tennis air dome was put in place to allow indoor tennis to
be staged over the winter months and erected covers two of four new
floodlit hardcourts.
The £280,000 Carlisle City Council project was made possible
after £125,000 funding from the Lawn Tennis Association and other
partner funding agreements was secured.
The LTA tennis development programme will now continue as
normal. Anyone wishing to make a private booking should contact
01228 625545.
The courts are managed by Carlisle Leisure Limited on Carlisle
City Council’s behalf.
