Refuse and Recycling collections
Advice for residents
(Date of issue: Tuesday, 2 January 2012)
Carlisle City Council is advising residents to carry on putting
their put their refuse and recycling out for collection. Although
adverse weather conditions, including high winds, are affecting the
county, the council is continuing to collect kerbside refuse and
recycling but is advising residents to:
- Help reduce litter by making sure containers are closed and
secure;
- Not put out bins, purple sacks or recycling containers out too
early, but ensure that they are out for collection no later than
7am on the day of your collection; and
- Help reduce litter during windy weather by buying a box hat for
your Greenbox for only £1. These are available direct from the
Civic Centre or by calling 01228 817200.
Carlisle City Council spokesperson said:
“Due to the high winds and to minimise litter, the council’s
street cleaners will work alongside the recycling crews to help
tidy up the streets. As long as this weather persists they’ll be
working with the refuse and recycling team to minimise the
mess.”
How to have a green 2012:
- If you have a Greenbox, you can recycle the following items at
the kerbside or at a local recycling point: wrapping paper;
Christmas cards; clean and empty glass bottles & jars and clean
and empty drinks & food cans and empty aerosol cans.
- You can recycle your real Christmas trees using your Garden
Waste bin (place it beside the bin, on the day of your collection,
if it is too big to go inside). In the New Year, to help speed up
your garden waste collections, please do not place your garden
waste bin out for collection unless it is at least half full.
- If you have Greenbags you can recycle the following items from
the kerbside or from recycling points: cardboard food and packaging
boxes (please place beside your cardboard bag if it will not fit
in); hard plastic packaging; plastic bottles, plastic biscuit trays
& other plastic trays/food tubs. Please put plastics in one bag
and cardboard in the other as we cannot recycle mixed bags.
