Flower power
Digging in for Carlisle in Bloom
Carlisle City Council's Green Spaces team will be doing their
bit to make the city cleaner, greener and safer tomorrow (Friday, 6
July) when they spruce up a local park area.
The eight strong team, normally based within offices at
Bousteads Grassing, will be getting their fingers dirty by tidying
up the shrub beds and gardens at Portland Square prior to a visit
by Cumbria in Bloom judges later this month (Tuesday, 24
July).
The City Council team is the brains behind Carlisle's bedding
displays and ensures that the area at its blooming best at all
times throughout the year. They will be mucking in between 10am and
12.30pm.
Local businesses and residents are being asked to back the
Carlisle in Bloom campaign by following the Green Spaces team's
example by sprucing up their gardens in advance of the area's
blooming credentials being judged.
Cumbria in Bloom judges will be visiting the city between
10.30am and 1pm and will be on the outlook for Carlisle's floral
prowess. Stanwix in Bloom will also be judged on Thursday, between
2.30pm and 4pm.
Areas being judged will include city centre streets, Warwick
Road, The Crescent, Shaddongate, Dalston Road, Richardson Street
and Wigton Road.
Bedding plants at St Aidan's School, Courtfield Bowling Club,
The Courts bedding display, Citadel Train Station, the city centre
shopping area, Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House, Carlisle Cemetery
and Chances' Park will all form part of their short stay.
