Summer Athletics Fun
Masterclass for budding athletes
Chris Kirk, a member of the British athletics team, will be
giving a long jump masterclass tomorrow (Wednesday, 25 July) to
some of Carlisle's budding athletes.
A senior ranked member of the GB &NI team, Chris has
represented his country at the European U23 Championships and made
his senior debut at the European Cup in June this year.
Chris will be making a flying visit to Carlisle City Council and
Carlisle Aspatria Athletics Clubs' Star:track event between 11am
and 12noon. Based at The Sheepmount athletics training course, the
training has been up and running since Monday and will end on
Wednesday afternoon.
More than 40 young people have signed up for this week's UK
Athletics Star:track event and will be taking part in coaching
sessions involving all of the main athletics disciplines including
running, jumping and throwing skills. The Carlisle City Council
organised sessions, which will run daily from 10am to 1pm at the
Sheepmount Athletics Track, are open to youngsters aged from eight
to 12-years-old.
Between six to ten coaches from local athletics clubs run the
activities.
The scheme is part of a national project 'Star:track' sponsored
by Norwich Union and UK Athletics and Carlisle is one 300 venues
taking part this year. Everyone taking part will receive a free
athletics goody bag.
