Enjoy some free family fun
Combat the credit crunch this summer
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 30 July 2008)
Families feeling the pinch thanks to the credit crunch are being
offered some help making their summer holidays fun.
Carlisle City Council’s Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has
compiled a list of free local activities, from outdoor events to
creative workshops. Based in the Old Town Hall, the staff has come
up with some great ways to make the most of the summer holidays,
for young and old.
In addition to free summer information leaflets, the TIC is also
handing out a limited number of children’s colouring activity packs
to those who call into their city centre base.
Cllr Marilyn Bowman, Porftolio holder for Economic Development
and Enterprise, said:
"With the ever increasing cost of living, we’re
encouraging local residents to take advantage of the many free
activities happening around the city. Our TIC staff has lots of
ideas to help you stretch that already tight budget over the summer
months. Pop into the TIC and our helpful staff will give you lots
of top tips to enjoy your summer holidays, on a budget."
As part of the summer tourism promotion, local residents will be
encouraged to find out more about their Roman links and climb
aboard the Hadrian’s Wall bus and discover this fascinating
frontier to the once mighty Roman Empire.
The attractions on Hadrian’s Wall provide a variety of family
events this summer. On Mondays, up to two children can travel free
on the Hadrian’s Wall bus with one purchasable adult day Rover
ticket. For more information and a timetable, make a visit to the
TIC.
Information is available on all the major attractions throughout
Cumbria and across the country.
Other services provided by the TIC include:
- Day passes for Center Parcs Winfell Forest Park
- TicketMaster for concerts and events
- Free information on what to see and do
- Public Transport Information
- UK holiday and short breaks information
- Accommodation Booking service
- Books, souvenirs and gifts
