Fun times ahead

Carlisle summer schemes

From today (Monday, 21 July), children and young people of all ages will be able to sample a wide-range of fun Summer holiday activities, courtesy of Carlisle City Council. This year’s activities include:

Playschemes based at 20 rural venues over a four-week period, aimed at 5 to 12 year olds. Free of charge. The first playschemes start next Monday (28 July) and will operate between 10.30am and 3pm;

Five days of Parkschemes based in local parks. Activities are aimed at 5 to 12 year olds and will operate between 10.30am and 3pm. The first Parkschemes will be held in Longtown (Lochinvar Close) on Monday, 28 July and Tuesday, 29 July. A parkscheme will also be held in Bitts Park on Wednesday, 30 July and will be followed by two days of Parkschemes in Brampton (George V playing fields) on Thursday, 31 July and Friday, 1 August;

Four days of Wildschemes based at Talkin Tarn and Kingmoor Nature Reserve. Activities are aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. Wildschemes at Talkin Tarn will be held between 10.30am and 3pm on Monday, 4 August and Tuesday, 5 August – advance booking is essential by telephoning 01228 817358. Wildschemes at Kingmoor Nature Reserve will be held between 10am - 12noon and 1pm – 3pm on Thursday, 7 August and Friday, 8 August. No booking is needed;

Multi-Use Games Area activities. Activities will be staged in Melbourne Park, Botcherby; Dale End Road, Harraby; Hammond’s Pond, Upperby; Brampton’s George V playing fields; Heysham Park, Raffles. Activities will take place between Monday, 25 July and Wednesday, 13 August and are open to young people aged between 8 and 17 years old. Telephone 01228 817371 for further information;

Star:Track – a nation-wide scheme run in partnership with UK Athletics which provides top level coaching to 8 to 12 year olds. This will run between 10am and 1pm on Monday, 21 to Wednesday, 23 July at The Sheepmount;

Go 4 It – an exciting sports programme which offers a wide-range of action-packed activities. Activities include tennis, grass track cycling, rowing, trampolining and waterpolo, amongst other things. Events are aimed at 5 to 16 year olds. The activities programme starts on Tuesday, 22 July and carries on until Friday, 22 August. Places are still available. Basketball camp – aimed at children aged between 8 and 15 years old, the event will be staged between Monday, 4 August and Wednesday, 6 August at the University of Cumbria’s Fusehill Street Campus between 10am and 1pm each day. For further information telephone 01228 817581.

National Playday will be also celebrated by the City Council in partnership with a range of other organisations on Wednesday, 6 August, when lots of exciting and challenging activities will be on offer providing free fun and information for all ages in the city centre pedestrianised shopping area, Bitts Park, Tullie House, The Sands Centre, Morton Pool and Trinity Pool. This year’s theme is ‘Give Us a Go!’. A ‘Skate Jam’ will be also be staged on the same day for young people of all ages at Devonshire Walk skate park.
