Industrial Action
Carlisle City Council’s Civic Centre closed to the public
(Date of issue: Tuesday 15 July 2008)
Due to the industrial action which is taking place on Wednesday 16
July and Thursday 17 July, the Civic Centre will be closed to the
public, other services will be operating as normal.
The decision to close the building has been taken on security,
health and safety grounds as it cannot be predicted what level of
service will be provided due to strike action by staff.
The customer contact centre will be closed to the public and the
01228 817200 customer contact centre number and
the main switchboard number 01228 817000 will not
be available. There will be a recorded message advising callers
about the disruption in service.
Other City Council buildings will be open including Tullie House
Museum and Art Gallery and community centres.

Benefits enquiries can be made by ringing 01228
817201, however, non emergency enquiries, if possible
should be postponed until Friday.
No recovery action will be taken for unpaid bills during the
period of industrial action.
Cumbria County Council’s Social Adult Care clients will
not be affected by this closure as specific
arrangements have been put in place to provide this service.
