Carlisle schools take part in national scheme

(Date of issue: Monday, 6 July 2009)

Ninety Carlisle school children will be taking part in a Tri-Golf Festival this Wednesday (8 July), between 1pm and 3pm, at Richard Rose Central Academy.

Nine junior schools, each with ten representative students, aged between 8 and 10 years old, will compete in the golfing challenge. Organised by Carlisle City Council, with support from ten local volunteers, fully trained in the tri-golf activators award*, the event is part of a national Golf Foundation initiative being rolled out across the country. Each student will receive a medal, certificate and goodie bag from the Golf Foundation for taking part.

The winners of the Carlisle festival will represent the city at a national festival, due to be held in Loughborough in September this year.

Co-ordinated by Carlisle City Council and partners – the School Sports Partnership; Cumbria Golf Development Officer; Fesco Officer (Further Education Sports Co-ordinator) and Cumbria Sport -each school will been given five hours training each, by local golf pros as part of the build up to the event.
