Combat the credit crunch this summer
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 22 July 2009)
Families feeling the pinch thanks to the credit crunch are being
offered some help making their summer holidays fun.
Carlisle City Council’s Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has
compiled a list of free local activities, from outdoor events to
creative workshops. Based in the Old Town Hall, the staff have come
up with some great ways to make the most of the summer holidays,
for young and old.
To promote the free guide and to support local tourist
attractions, an open day will be held at the TIC’s Assembly Rooms
next Tuesday (28 July) between 11am and 3pm.
Staff from Walby Farm, the Wetheral Animal Refuge, Tullie House
Museum & Art Gallery, The Sands Centre, Carlisle Castle and New
Mills Trout Farm, Brampton will all be on hand to let local
families know that they have on offer over the summer. Children’s
activities and free giveaways will also be available throughout the
open day, including face painting between 12noon and 2pm.
Carlisle City Cllr Marilyn Bowman, Porftolio holder for Economy,
said:
“With the ever increasing cost of living, we’re
encouraging local residents to take advantage of the many
activities happening around the city. Our TIC staff has lots of
ideas to help you stretch that already tight budget over the summer
months. Pop into the TIC and our helpful staff will give you lots
of top tips to enjoy your summer holidays, on a budget.”
