Free Swimming Lessons at Carlisle’s Pools
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 29 July 2009)
Free swimming lessons, for anyone aged over 11 years old, are
now on offer at Carlisle’s public pools.
The new scheme is funded by the ASA and the Government’s
swim4life initiative. Carlisle City Council successfully bid for
the Government funding which has resulted in free swimming sessions
for anyone aged 16 and under or anyone aged 60 years or older.
Aimed at beginners, the free lessons are now available at the
Carlisle Pools, Trinity Leisure Centre and Morton Pool and will
continue until September. Different days and times are available,
with each course consisting of 6 x 1 hour sessions.
Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and
Infrastructure, said:
“The free sessions provide a great opportunity
for young people and adults to learn to swim at one of their local
pools. It is a chance not to be missed and I would urge anyone who
is interested to get in touch soon and not miss out.”
Jacqui Watson, Manager of Carlisle Pools, added:
“This is a fantastic new scheme and is a golden
opportunity for people to be able to learn how to swim. There is no
upper age limit so we are looking forward to welcoming people of
all ages to The Pools. This scheme can help make a real difference
and will show non swimmers the health benefits that can be achieved
from being able to swim, as well as taking part in sociable
activity.”
