Last chance to buy low cost compost bins
(Date of issue: Monday, 13 July 2009)
Carlisle City Council is encouraging locals to go green this
summer. In partnership with WRAP, it is offering a limited number
of compost bins at bargain prices – but you’ll need to hurry, as
the offer ends on 30 September.
The offer is designed to help locals to do their bit for the
environment without the tug on the purse strings. Compost bins will
be available for as little as £8, including delivery and a FREE
kitchen caddy. More than 5,300 compost bins have already been sold
in Carlisle since the scheme was set up.
Carlisle City Councillor Ray Bloxham, Portfolio Holder for
Environment and Infrastructure, said:
“If you want to do your bit to help the
environment, but aren’t sure how to incorporate recycling into an
already busy lifestyle, then composting at home is an easy way to
make a difference. This great offer being run by the council is the
perfect excuse to get started – so don’t miss out on these bargain
bins.”
By recycling kitchen and garden waste in a compost bin, it not
only produces nutritious compost to help gardens bloom, but it also
reduces the amount of waste we leave out for collection and send to
landfill. About a third of household waste can be composted at home
– this includes kitchen and household waste (egg shells, kitchen
paper, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and even shredded
bank statements) as well as garden waste (grass cuttings, pruning’s
and twigs).
Every day thousands of tonnes of this kind of waste are sent to
the tip, producing methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, when it rots
down in landfill. If you put your household and kitchen items into
the compost bin this prevents it from being sent to landfill and
provides you with high-quality, free compost for you to use in your
garden.
So hurry and order your compost bin today and make the most of
this fantastic offer. Visit www.recyclenow.com/compost or
