Voting deadlines loom
Time running out to register to vote in local By Election
Date of issue: Tuesday, 10 August
2010
Residents have until Wednesday, 1 September
to register to vote, or apply for a postal vote, for the upcoming
Stanwix Urban By Election.
Electors who are unable to cast their vote
in person on the day of the City Council By Election (Thursday, 16
September) are being urged to contact Carlisle City Council’s
Electoral Registration section before the deadline or miss out on
their chance to vote.
All new postal vote applications need to be
with Carlisle City Council’s Electoral Registration section by 5pm
on Wednesday, 1September to meet the deadline. The cut off for
registration is on the same day.
Electors can also submit new applications to
vote by proxy. These applications must be submitted by no later
than 5pm on Wednesday, 8 September 2010.

or proxy, can request application forms by telephoning

by emailing elections@carlisle.gov.uk
The City Council Stanwix Urban By-Election
will be held on Thursday, 16 September. One seat will be
contested.
The Election count will be held at the Civic
Centre, the first ballot boxes are expected to arrive soon after
the polling stations close at
10pm.

- The City Council has 52 Councillors,
comprising 23 Labour Councillors, 21 Conservative Councillors, five
Liberal Democrat Councillors and two Independent Councillors. There
is currently one vacant seat (subject to By Election). Each
Councillor serves one of 22 wards.
