Time running out to register to vote in local By Election

Residents have until Wednesday, 1 September to register to vote, or apply for a postal vote, for the upcoming Stanwix Urban By Election.

Electors who are unable to cast their vote in person on the day of the City Council By Election (Thursday, 16 September) are being urged to contact Carlisle City Council’s Electoral Registration section before the deadline or miss out on their chance to vote.

All new postal vote applications need to be with Carlisle City Council’s Electoral Registration section by 5pm on Wednesday, 1September to meet the deadline. The cut off for registration is on the same day.

Electors can also submit new applications to vote by proxy. These applications must be submitted by no later than 5pm on Wednesday, 8 September 2010.

Residents wanting to apply to vote by post or proxy, can request application forms by telephoning 01228 817555 or 01228 817556 or by emailing elections@carlisle.gov.uk

The City Council Stanwix Urban By-Election will be held on Thursday, 16 September. One seat will be contested.

The Election count will be held at the Civic Centre, the first ballot boxes are expected to arrive soon after the polling stations close at 10pm.
