Walking your Way to Health
Take a stroll this summer

Carlisle City Council’s is encouraging local residents to take a
stroll this summer and take part in a series of new free guided
walks around local beauty spots.
All eight walks are the first steps towards a healthy lifestyle
and have been arranged around local parks, woods, riversides and
fells to help individuals discover, explore and learn about their
local area.
As part of the free programme, planned
walks will be held on evenings and weekends:
- Sunday 18 July: 10am - 1pm.
Meet in Wreay Woods, Car Park, Golden Fleece, Junction 42 M6.
Approx four miles. A popular walk following a riverside route.
- Thursday 22 July: 7pm -
8.30pm. Meet in The Sands Centre Car Park Approx three
miles. Discover some of Carlisle’s best spots for wildlife and
peace and quiet.
- Sunday 25 July: 10am - 3pm (bring
packed lunch). Meet in The Sands Centre Car Park. Approx
eight miles. From the heart of the city to the heart of the country
along Cumbria’s greatest river following some of the Hadrian’s Wall
National Trail.
- Sunday 1 August: 10am - 2pm (bring
packed lunch). Meet in Low Gelt Woods Car Park, nr
Brampton. Approx five miles. Discover the Greenwell hamlet and the
area around the well loved Gelt Woods.
- Saturday 7 August: 1.30pm -
3pm. Meet in Birdoswald Roman Fort Car Park. Approx four
miles. So much to explore and see in this area. Hopefully getting
back to Birdoswald in time for a cup of tea in the café.
- Tuesday 10 August: 6pm -
7.30pm. Meet in Rickerby Park Car Park. Approx two and a
half miles. Visiting one of Carlisle’s popular parks featuring
history on Rickerby Park and Hadrian’s Wall.
- Wednesday 18 August: 6pm –
8.30pm. Meet in Castle Carrock meet at Jockey Shield in
roadside layby on the minor road from Castle Carrock to Geltsdale
Approx four miles. A fell walk in Geltsdale. Ancient woodland,
tranquillity and ‘away from it all’.
