Cllr Jacquelyne Geddes, Portfolio holder for Community
Engagement, said:
“The rural outreach programme aims to promote positive behaviour
and good community spirit, as well as cutting crime and disorder.
The weekly activities offer the chance to take part in lots of fun
activities, as well as learning a new skill. They are open to
everyone and aim to build community relations and provide an
opportunity to meet new people and get involved in your local
community.”
Inspector Diane Bradbury, who leads the Brampton Neighbourhood
Policing Team, said:
“Communities in Brampton, Longtown and Dalston have told us that
tackling anti-social behaviour is a priority for their local police
over the summer holidays. When we speak to youngsters, they always
tell us they have nothing to do and nowhere to go, so by working
with partners to provide activities during the school holidays we
hope to distract young people from anti-social behaviour by
providing a fun alternative. Police officers and PCSOs will also
patrol hotspot areas at peak times to discourage anti-social
behaviour and to be on hand to deal with any problems that
arise.”
