The North Cumbria Board of Young Enterprise hosted an
Airline Masterclass event at NCTC, between 9.30am and 2.45pm on
Tuesday 10th June.
60 from NCTC and 60 from St.Aidans from year 8, aged between
12-13, split into teams of 10 to battle it out to be the most
successful airline. Cllr Marilyn Bowman portfolio Holder for
Development and Enterprise was one of the judges alongside a number
of staff from the University of Cumbria.
Students were given a virtual 200 million to spend,
they had to design a logo, work out which routes they
wanted to cover, buy planes, uniform, fuel, food and all necessary
items to run a successful airline. During the course of the day
they were set tasks.
Cllr Marilyn Bowman portfolio holder for Economic Development
and Enterprise said:
‘’ Young Enterprise fits firmly within Carlisle
City Council’s priorities, we actively support the initiative and
value the contribution the participants make to its success. We as
a council pride ourselves on being a role model for our community
and leading by example in the field of learning and development. In
supporting this initiative and ones like it we as a City will begin
to benefit through growing our own future business leaders.’’
Pam Oddy Area Manager for Young Enterprise covering Cumbria and
Lancashire said:
‘’We are obviously delighted to be working with
Carlisle City Council and the University of Cumbria in bringing
together these two schools, that will join together as one academy
from September. This event is part of the ongoing work of Young
Enterprise to encourage young people to become involved in business
and to develop to their full potential, looking towards the future
of Cumbria.’’
