City Council priorities
Residents have their say
(Date of issue: Tuesday 2 June 2009)
Carlisle residents are being invited to comment on the new
proposed priorities for Carlisle City Council.
The City Council is currently establishing new priorities so
that it can set objectives and performance measures which will
support its work over the next three to five years.
The current economic climate, the City Council’s financial
position and the Government’s expectation that all councils operate
more efficiently have been the drivers for the City Council’s
transformation programme.
From today residents will be able to provide their comments via
the City Council’s website - www.carlisle.gov.uk - they will
be asked what they think about the new priorities and also what is
good and bad about the neighbourhoods where they live.
The new priorities will focus upon:
The Environment which will address the ‘quality of life’ issues
for residents. By working with local people and in partnership with
other organisations such as health and Police, the City Council
aims to build a more flexible and responsive organisation that can
respond quickly and efficiently to residents’ concerns.
The Economy which includes – jobs and training, housing,
planning and Carlisle Renaissance. This is so that the City Council
can support local business and local communities during the
economic downturn and put Carlisle in the best possible position
for recovery.
Cllr Mike Mitchelson, Leader of Carlisle City
Council, said: "We have a responsibility on behalf of our residents
to make sure our services meet their needs which can be very
different across the district, which is why we are keen to collect
a wide range of views to help us decide on our way forward. We are
not a static organisation and we will be reviewing our priorities
to meet changing demands. The city's economy and improving people’s
way of life in their communities are two key areas to consider"
Residents’ feedback will considered by the City Council’s
Executive on Tuesday 16 June 2009.
