Friends of Talkin Tarn group
(Date of issue: Friday, 5 June 2009)
The opportunity for local residents to help develop and improve
one of Carlisle’s beauty spots is now available. The Friends of
Talkin Tarn will be officially launched next Tuesday (9 June) at
10am, when local City Councillor, Ray Bloxham, becomes its first
member.
The new group is free to join and will allow members to hear,
first hand, up to date information on schemes, events and
initiatives planned for the local country park.
It is free to become a member of the group and a quarterly
newsletter will be one of the perks of the membership scheme. The
opportunity to volunteer free time to help with local conservation
and environmental projects will also be available. Cllr Ray
Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and Infrastructure,
said:
“The Friends of Talkin Tarn aims to promote a
better understanding of the country park to the local community. We
want the surrounding community and beyond to get involved in the
development of the site and the new group is an opportunity for
local residents to hear direct what’s planned for the country park
and not miss out on the events scheduled throughout the year.
“Since we took over the management of the site in
2006, we have ensured that the site has had all the essential
improvement works – these have made sure that the area and its
buildings meet all the statutory health & safety and access
requirements. It’s now time for local residents to get involved and
play an active part in making sure that the site remains as
environmentally sustainable as it is now.”
