Healthy City
Leisure and Industry will be joining forces later this month as
part of Men’s Health Week.
During the week of the 13th to 19th June, Carlisle Leisure
Limited and Carlisle City Council will be putting on a series of
leisure and health related activities during the mid afternoon
shift changeover period at Pirelli.
The Dalston Road site currently employs over 800 men and during
the week activities such as Spinning, Golf, Tennis and a Boot Camp
will take place in the conference room and specially marked out
areas in the factory grounds.
Kelly Donnelly, Marketing Manager for Carlisle Leisure Limited
says:
“The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness
of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and
treatment of disease among men and boys. Hand in hand with this
goes the obvious benefits of regular exercise and some of our team
will be carrying out a range of sessions with the Pirelli staff to
give them a taster of the different activities that they can take
part in ranging from low impact sessions to those that give a more
intense workout.”
Kelly Irving from Pirelli approached Carlisle Leisure Limited to
come into the factory to help signpost staff towards finding out
more about physical activity.
She said:
“We want all of our employees to be informed of health and
wellbeing and how this can benefit their own lives. Organising a
whole week of activities such as this gives our employees
opportunity to ask the professionals questions, seek advice and
improve their health.”
Among the health related activities that will be on offer will
be the chance to check height, weight and seek advice and
information from the experts on hand.
Emma Dixon, Health Improvement Officer for Carlisle City
Council, says:
“Individuals spend a substantial amount of time at work. This
provides us with a real opportunity to engage with staff, and more
widely, to their families, and local communities. Men’s Health Week
at Pirelli provides an opportunity for individuals to try
activities, but also find and take away information relevant to
them. Such workplace activity can have a positive impact on only on
the individuals but on the organization as a whole. A Healthy City
is about raising awareness, addressing local issues and making a
conscious effort to improve the health of Carlisle residents.
Pirelli have a huge captive audience and this is fantastic example
of organisations working together to initiate change within the
area.”
Activities are being delivered by a team of instructors from The
Sands Centre and the Outdoor team from Carlisle Leisure Limited
along with members of the City Council’s Sport and Recreation team.
