Shakespeare in the Park
(Date of issue: Thursday, 30 June 2011)
Carlisle’s Bitts Park will act as the stage for a Shakespeare in
the Park event this July.
Organised as part of the build up to this year’s Love Parks
Week, the open-air performance of ‘Love Labour’s Lost’ will be held
on Sunday, 10 July at 7pm.
Tickets for the ‘Not Cricket Productions’ event cost from £5 and
are available direct from www.simplyspiffing.co.uk
Free workshops will also be held for children aged between 7 and
12 years old, on the same day of the performance. The Shakespeare
Activities Afternoon will be between 1.30pm and 4pm. Youngsters
will be able to take part in lots of fun and educational activities
including experiencing Elizabethan food and clothes as well as
trying out games, crafts and combat.
Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment and Housing,
said:
”This is the first time a Shakespearean play has been staged
within Bitts Park and we’re looking forward to welcoming the
production to Carlisle. It will act as a brilliant build-up event
to our packed nine-day Love Parks Week programme.
“This year’s programme of events is the best we’ve ever had. It
provides even more reasons to sample and enjoy our local parks.
Activities will include the ever-popular Flicks at Bitts and free
guided open top tours of our beautiful parks and green spaces.”
Love
Parks Week will take place between Saturday 23rd and Sunday
31st July 2011, coinciding with the first week of the summer
holidays. Carlisle City Council is celebrating Love Parks Week with
a wide range of events.
Celebrating Love Parks Week’s fifth birthday, organisers
GreenSpace aim to double their numbers by gathering one million
people into parks and green spaces across the country, showcasing
the benefits which are obtainable from free, local resources and
encouraging further promotion and reinvestment into such valuable,
but often forgotten assets.
Last year, Love Parks Week saw over 800 events registered across
the country providing opportunities for nearly half a million
people to get together outdoors and make the most of what our parks
offer.
