The Great No Smoking Day Challenge
Wednesday 12 March seen the arrival of this year’s National No
Smoking Day. Carlisle Partnership on behalf of Carlisle City
Council as part of the day hosted two displays on National No
Smoking Day with information on quitting, quiz sheets and tips on
how to stop smoking, which were available in the foyer at the
Civic Centre and The Sands Centre.
People were being challenged to take part in the UK’s
biggest smoking quit with over a million people expected to join
in. This year’s theme the ‘Great No Smoking Day Challenge’
encourages smokers to stay focused initially on a manageable target
- the first week. It is hoped the weeklong challenge will help
quitters develop the confidence to go on to a smokefree life.
Help and support will be widely available to help all those
rising the one-week challenge go on to kick the habit for good.
There is free motivational text messaging and email support on
hand, to remind participants of the benefits of quitting, and the
help that is available.
As well as that quitters are being encouraged to get people to
sponsor them so that participants can raise money for their
favourite charity, giving them a more emotional commitment to the
challenge.
All people need to do is just sign up at www.nosmokingday.org.uk to
receive all the support, resources and information needed to
succeed and it's all free!
