Moon watching event
(Date of issue: Monday, 30 March 2009)
Local residents are being invited to a free Moon Watch event at
Talkin Tarn Country Park this Friday (3 April), between 7.30pm and
9.30pm.
Organised as part of National Moon Watch week, it forms part of
the International Year of Astronomy. The event will include a brief
talk by a local astronomy enthusiast in the Log Cabin followed by
the chance to use telescopes that make it possible to view the moon
as if it was 100 times closer.
In addition to moon watching, local astronomers will also be
hoping to point out Saturn with its famous rings turned almost
edge-on to the earth. This rare appearance is only seen every 15
years. Star clusters will also be on the list of objects to
observe.
Suitable for all ages, places are limited and anyone attending
should wear warm clothes. Telephone 016977 3129 to book a
place.
