New charges for April 2009
(Date of issue: Wednesday, 25 March 2009)
Some new car parking charges will be introduced from April this
year.
Car parking charges were reviewed last year, when all City
Council directorates were asked to identify potential savings and
increased income. To support local businesses and residents, the
City Council decided to put a freeze on the hourly rate charge and
therefore the vast majority of charges remain the same, however the
following will come into operation:
- The charge for stays four hours in short stay car parks has
increased from £7.50 to £10.
- Sunday and Bank Holiday charges will be the same as the normal
day rate charge.
- Cost of contract parking has increased, but still offers a 25%
discount on the normal daily charge.
- Disabled Badge Holders can continue to park for free in
Carlisle City Council car parks but this is now limited to a
maximum of three hours (a clock disc must be displayed, set at the
time of arrival and be alongside a valid disabled persons badge.
Any stays longer than the three hours will be subject to the normal
daily charges.
Carlisle City Cllr Ray Bloxham, Portfolio holder for Environment
and Infrastructure, said:
“We spent a lot of time deliberating the options.
We decided against increasing the hourly charging rate but have
decided to put in place a series of changes that are necessary to
generate much needed income for local services.”
The new charges come into operation next Wednesday (1
April).
